Cyprus is a wonderful place to spend your holidays. It is situated in the east corner of the Mediterranean Sea and it is well known for its ancient history that dates back 7.000 B.C. It is a place that east meets west in a combination so vast and beautiful that it can never be forgotten. It would be a great idea to rent a car for only three days and visit most of the sites that will make your visit to Cyprus unforgetable.
Larnaca Area
larnaca of cyprus car hireThe town of Larnaka is situated by the sea in the south-east corner of the island and has an international airport. There are several places to visit in the center of the town including the Pierides museum on Zinonos street, the ruins of ancient Kition and St. Lazaros church. Phinikudes promenade with its tall palm trees is the heart of the town. You can walk along the beach, enjoy a cold drink in a café and relax. A visit to the Marina with its yachts and boats is a must. In the outskirts there are the ruins of an Aqueduct which is situated near the salt lake. On the other side of the salt lake and near the airport there is the Mosque of Hala Soultan Tekke with its beautiful ornaments and garden. You may also drive to the village of Kiti which is just a few kilometeres away and visit the church of Angeloktisti which was built by angels as the ligend says. Further away near the village of Mazotos there is a Kamel park where you can feed a camel and even go for a ride on a camel. It will be truly a wonderful experience. Larnaka is also near the holiday resort of Agia Napa with its golden beaches and exciting nightlife.
Limassol Area
limassol area car hireLimassol is the second biggest town in Cyprus and its port plays an important role in the ecomomy of Cyprus. There are several places of interest in the center of the town including Limassol old town where you can walk along the pavement and admire the traditional old houses, visit Limassol castle where Richard the Lionheart married Berangaria or take a stroll on the seafront Akti Olympion in the evening. The archeological site of the ancient Kingdom of Amathus is part of the glorious history of Cyprus. Limassol nightlife is really exciting especially in Potamos Yermasoyias area. You may visit Kolossi Castle which is just a few kilometers away from the town
or drive to the many beautiful beaches including Governor’s Beach or Lady’s Mile Beach. A few kilometers outside Limassol there is a Water park and further away towards Paphos town there is the picturesque village of Fasouri. There are several excellent restaurants only a short drive away in the outskirts of town.
Kourion and Lefkara Village
paphos area of cyprus car hirePaphos is a town at the southwestern tip of Cyprus, between the coast and the Troodos Mountains. Paphos is renowned as the birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodites. Modern Paphos is divided into the uppur section up the hill being a commercial centre and lower Kato Paphos with its excition nighlife and archaeological points of interest, as well as most hotels and taverns. Drive to the Paphos Archaeological Park which includes the House of Dionysos with its mosaics. You may also drive to the Tombs of the Kings, whilst not actually the burial places of ancient royalty, is worth the name none or less. Visit Episkipi village with its winding streets and its renowned cliff face. Walk the coastal path or enjoy a day at the Water Park. A drive to the Kourion Theatre is a must. It is located on the southern end of the abrupt hill and was constracted at the end of the 2nd century B.C.
Nicosia Area
nicosia area car hireNicosia is the capital of Cyprus and it is located near the centre of the Mesaoria plain, on the banks of the river Pedieos. Drive to the Archbishop Kyprianos Square and see the archbishops’ palace or stroll along Onasagorou Street which is a busy shopping streetin the historical centre. The Archbishop’s Place contains a Byzantine museum containing the largest collection of religious icons on the island. Drive to the Venetian Walls in the centre of the town that have three gates including Kyrenia Gate and Famagusta Gate. Ledra Street is in the middle of the walled city and the heart of Nicosia. A buffer zone was esteblished across the island after Turkish troops occupied part of the island in 1974 part of it passes through the centre of Nicosia. Nicosia has a number of excellent restaurants and taverns that are located in the heart of the town. Nightlife in Nicosia is exciting and you may drive to a disco or a club, visit a theatre or go to a concert. Drive to the ancient kingdom of Idalion and see the ruins of an ancient city-state. Idalion is found in the outskirts of Nicosia and is part of the city’s ancient history. From Nicosia you may drive to any other town in just an hour because of its location in the heart of Cyprus.
